National News – Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has raised serious concerns over escalating violence across Nigeria, questioning President Bola Tinubu’s recent security assurances.
Obi highlighted the persistence of deadly attacks, mass abductions, and community destruction despite Tinubu’s promise on April 2, 2026, in Plateau State that such incidents would not recur.
Obi cited fresh attacks in Plateau, Nasarawa, Zamfara, Borno, Benue, and Kaduna states, detailing deaths, displacement, and property destruction.
“Less than 24 hours after President Tinubu assured citizens at Jos Plateau State airport, Nyamgo Gyel in Jos South LGA witnessed another brutal attack killing several people,” Obi said on his official X handle.
In Nasarawa State, at least 11 people were killed in Akyawa and Udege Kasa communities, with many homes burned and families missing.
Obi also referenced the mass abduction of 150 people in Kurfa Danya and Kurfan Magaji communities in Zamfara State, alongside terrorist attacks in Chibok, Borno, resulting in four officer deaths and property destruction.
Easter Sunday violence in Benue left over 17 people dead, while attacks in Kaduna State targeted churches and abducted multiple residents in Ariko, Kachia LGA.
Obi criticized the federal government’s response, asking, “How can a President make such a categorical promise and hours later, Nigerians continue to die across multiple states?”
He stressed that protecting lives and property is the government’s foremost duty, calling the situation a national emergency as insecurity worsens.
The former Anambra State governor urged urgent action to restore safety, questioning the effectiveness of current security measures and warning that inaction emboldens attackers.
Obi’s statements underscore a growing public demand for accountability and proactive steps to address Nigeria’s deepening security crisis.
