National News – American television host Savannah Guthrie has returned to the NBC Today show after weeks away from the studio as authorities continue searching for her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie.
The 84-year-old woman disappeared from her home near Tucson, Arizona, on 31 January, and investigators believe she may have been taken against her will.
Guthrie resumed her anchoring duties on Monday morning in New York, telling colleagues and viewers that it felt “good to be back” while thanking supporters who have shown concern for her family during the ongoing investigation.
Savannah Guthrie’s return to television comes more than two months after she stepped away from broadcasting following her mother’s disappearance.
During Monday’s programme, co-hosts welcomed her back warmly, noting that many fans gathered outside NBC studios in chilly New York weather holding signs to support her.
Weather presenter Al Roker also greeted Guthrie on air before delivering his forecast, telling her he was happy to see her return.
The search for Nancy Guthrie remains active.
Authorities say she was last seen on the evening of 31 January after relatives dropped her off at her residence near Tucson.
She reportedly disappeared without her medications and failed to attend a planned virtual church service with a friend the next morning.
Investigators have not disclosed a motive for the suspected abduction and have not confirmed any arrests in the case.
Savannah Guthrie, one of the most recognisable faces on American morning television, had temporarily withdrawn from several professional commitments, including NBC’s coverage of the Winter Olympics, while focusing on her family’s situation.
In recent interviews, she acknowledged that returning to work was emotionally challenging but said she felt compelled to reconnect with her colleagues and viewers.
The Guthrie family has offered a $1 million reward for information that leads to Nancy Guthrie’s safe return.
