National News – Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated former Gbenga Daniel on his 70th birthday, praising the veteran politician and businessman for his contributions to Nigeria’s political and economic development.
The President made the remarks on Monday, April 6, 2026, in a statement marking Daniel’s milestone birthday.
Tinubu described the Ogun East senator as a distinguished engineer, entrepreneur, and political figure whose achievements have impacted both the private and public sectors.
The message highlighted Daniel’s decades-long service to the nation and his continued role in shaping Nigeria’s development.
Tinubu, who leads the Federal Government of Nigeria, recalled his long-standing relationship with Daniel and the role the former governor played during the political events that led to Tinubu’s emergence as governor of Lagos State in 1999.
According to the President, Daniel worked closely with him and other political allies during the campaign period, helping secure the electoral victory that launched Tinubu’s leadership in the state.
Daniel, popularly known as OGD, later served as governor of Ogun State beginning in 2003.
Tinubu noted that Daniel’s administration focused on industrialisation, infrastructure development, education reforms, and the promotion of public-private partnerships.
These initiatives, he said, helped strengthen economic activity in the state and improved development opportunities for residents.
Beyond politics, Tinubu highlighted Daniel’s entrepreneurial achievements, particularly his role as founder of Kresta Laurel, an electro-mechanical engineering firm established in 1990.
The President said the company’s success reflects Daniel’s determination, business expertise, and commitment to excellence in engineering and construction services across Nigeria.
Tinubu also pointed to Daniel’s legacy projects, including the development of the state’s first agro-allied cargo airport and the establishment of Tai Solarin University of Education, which remains one of Nigeria’s key institutions dedicated to teacher education.
Describing Daniel as a progressive politician and a respected member of the Yoruba socio-political group Afenifere, Tinubu praised his resilience across Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
Daniel has previously been affiliated with the Alliance for Democracy and the Peoples Democratic Party before returning to the All Progressives Congress.
As Daniel marks his 70th birthday, Tinubu wished him good health and many more years of impactful service, expressing hope that his contributions to Nigeria’s socio-political and economic growth will continue.
