National News – Nigerian security forces have rescued seven worshippers abducted during an attack on churches in Ariko community, Kaduna State, according to the Nigeria Police Force.
The victims were kidnapped on Sunday, April 5, 2026, when armed bandits stormed two churches during Easter services, killing several people and abducting others.
The attack happened in Ariko village near Gurara Dam in Kaduna State when gunmen reportedly invaded the First ECWA Church and St. Augustine Catholic Church.
Witnesses said the attackers fired indiscriminately during the worship service, killing at least five people and abducting about fourteen worshippers.
The Nigeria Police Force confirmed the rescue in a statement released on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Placid.
He explained that the successful rescue followed a coordinated security operation involving the police, the Nigerian Army, and the Department of State Services.
According to the statement, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, ordered an immediate security response after receiving reports of the attack.
To strengthen the response, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Shehu Umar Nadada, was deployed to Kaduna State to assess the situation and coordinate rescue efforts.
Security forces launched a joint operation targeting areas suspected to be used by the kidnappers.
During the operation, seven abducted victims were safely rescued and taken to Katari Hospital for medical attention.
Authorities confirmed that the rescued victims are currently in stable condition and receiving treatment while arrangements are being made for their reunion with their families.
Police authorities stated that the rescue mission is still ongoing as security agencies continue efforts to locate and free the remaining victims still in captivity.
Investigations have also begun to track down and arrest those responsible for the deadly attack.
The police urged residents in Kaduna and nearby communities to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could help prevent further attacks.
The latest incident highlights ongoing security challenges in parts of Kaduna State, where attacks on rural communities and places of worship have been reported in recent months.
