National News – The Lagos State Government has deployed 500 additional officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) across strategic routes in preparation for the visit of Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu.
The move, announced on Monday, aims to manage traffic flow, strengthen security arrangements, and ensure smooth movement across major roads as the President arrives in Lagos for official engagements and project commissioning events.
The announcement was made by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, during a press briefing on the state’s preparations.
According to him, the deployment forms part of coordinated efforts by both federal and state authorities to handle logistics, traffic management, and security ahead of the President’s visit.
Omotoso explained that the additional officers would be stationed along major highways and important corridors connected to the President’s itinerary.
The objective, he said, is to minimise disruptions to daily activities while maintaining safety and order throughout the period of the visit.
“We are working closely with federal and state agencies to ensure that all arrangements for the President’s visit are seamless, secure, and befitting of the occasion,” Omotoso stated.
He added that the government has carefully mapped out traffic and security strategies to ensure residents experience minimal inconvenience during the presidential activities.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, also confirmed that the agency had concluded plans to deploy officers across critical routes and high-traffic areas linked to the President’s movements.
According to him, the officers will regulate vehicular movement, ease congestion, and assist commuters along affected corridors.
Bakare-Oki noted that the deployment is part of a broader inter-agency collaboration involving traffic managers, security operatives, and other government bodies.
The strategy is designed to guarantee smooth conduct of the commissioning ceremonies and ensure that transportation activities across Lagos remain orderly during the President’s engagements.
Other officials present at the briefing included the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Abisola Olusanya, alongside Special Advisers on Works and Infrastructure, Adekunle Olayinka and Femi Daramola, as well as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile.
Authorities urged residents and motorists to cooperate with traffic officials and adhere to directives as Lagos hosts the presidential visit.
