National News – Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Wednesday inaugurated key infrastructure projects in Lagos State on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is currently in the state for an official visit.
The commissioning ceremony took place on April 8, 2026, in Lagos and formed part of a two-day programme highlighting projects delivered by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Akpabio unveiled the Open-Mende-Ojota Link Bridge and the Multi-Agency Complex in Alausa, which has been renamed the Bola Ahmed Administrative Complex.
The projects were commissioned during a ceremony attended by top government officials, including Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo State, and Senator Tokunbo Abiru representing Lagos East Senatorial District.
While officially unveiling the projects, Akpabio stated that he was acting on behalf of the President, who had planned to personally commission several projects during the working visit.
“On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I commission these projects,” he said during the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
According to the Lagos State Government, the infrastructure projects are part of a broader effort to improve urban connectivity, administrative efficiency, and public service delivery.
Officials said the Open-Mende-Ojota Link Bridge is expected to ease traffic congestion across major corridors connecting Opebi, Allen Avenue, Ikeja, and Ojota.
The state government had earlier announced temporary traffic diversions ahead of the commissioning events.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, explained that the road adjustments were necessary to ensure safety and smooth coordination of activities during the visit.
Authorities advised motorists to avoid affected routes during the scheduled commissioning hours and make use of alternative roads to reduce congestion.
Additional projects expected to be commissioned during the two-day visit include the Lagos State Geographic Information Service building in Alausa, the Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle, the Maracana Stadium, and the Lagos Food Logistics Hub in Abijo.
Government officials described the projects as “transformative and legacy developments” aimed at strengthening infrastructure and supporting economic growth in Lagos State.
