National News – The All Progressives Congress (APC) has constituted its National Campaign Council and several sub-committees ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election in Osun State, naming Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as chairman of the campaign council.
The party said the move is part of its preparations to coordinate campaign activities and mobilise support for its governorship candidate in the off-cycle election.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party said the campaign council was constituted through a notice signed by its National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru.
According to the statement, the council will be chaired by Governor Uzodimma, who is also the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum.
Other members of the council include Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, who will serve as co-chairmen.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Kabir Masari, was named deputy chairman, while Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin will serve as secretary of the council.
The APC said the campaign council comprises governors, members of the National Working Committee, principal officers of the National Assembly, ministers, federal and state lawmakers, and other key party stakeholders from across the country.
According to the party, specialised sub-committees have also been established to oversee critical aspects of the campaign, including election planning and management, finance and resource mobilisation, grassroots mobilisation, logistics, monitoring and compliance, protocol, media and publicity, security, youth mobilisation, women’s mobilisation, mobilisation of persons with disabilities, and secretariat operations.
The ruling party added that the National Campaign Council and its sub-committees will be inaugurated on Tuesday, July 28, at the Transcorp Hilton Event Centre in Abuja.
Osun State is one of the states scheduled to hold an off-cycle governorship election this year, with political parties intensifying campaigns ahead of the August 15 poll. The election is expected to be a major test of political strength among the leading parties in the South-West.
