National News – Governor Muhammadu Yahaya has secured the senatorial ticket of the All Progressives Congress for the 2026 elections after emerging victorious in the party’s primary election held across Gombe State on Monday.
The APC Primary Election Committee announced the results on Tuesday in Gombe, confirming Yahaya as the candidate for Gombe North Senatorial District.
The Chairman of the APC Primary Election Committee, Labiru Musa, said the direct primary election was peaceful, transparent, and conducted according to party guidelines.
He explained that accreditation started at ward levels from 8:00 am, while only members with valid APC membership cards were allowed to vote to prevent irregularities.
According to the committee, Yahaya polled 131,009 affirmation votes to clinch the Gombe North senatorial ticket.
Retired Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohammed Ahmed won the APC ticket for Gombe Central Senatorial District with 89,415 votes, while Jerry Joseph Damara secured the Gombe South ticket after polling 56,687 votes.
Musa noted that the winners were declared at the zonal collation centres immediately after results were compiled.
He added that the exercise complied fully with the directives of the APC National Working Committee and reflected grassroots participation across the state.
The committee chairman also praised Governor Yahaya, party officials, journalists, and security agencies for ensuring a smooth electoral process.
He described the primary as a credible democratic exercise ahead of the 2026 general elections in Nigeria.
Political observers believe the emergence of the APC candidates could shape the political landscape in Gombe State as preparations for the national elections gather momentum.
