National News – The National Sports Commission (NSC) has warned that states which registered athletes but failed to participate in the third National Para Games will face sanctions, including possible exclusion from future para-sport events at the National Sports Festival.

The warning was issued to ensure discipline, compliance, and fairness in Nigeria’s para-sports system.

NSC Director General Bukola Olopade emphasised that adherence to rules is non-negotiable and that enforcement is essential to maintaining fairness and protecting the integrity of national competitions.

He noted that Nigeria’s strong reputation in para sports must be preserved through structured development, compliance with regulations, and fair competition for athletes.

According to the NSC, Article 13(V) of the National Para Games regulations mandates penalties for states that register athletes but fail to compete, empowering organisers to enforce disciplinary measures.

Olopade stressed that consistent enforcement will promote professionalism and enhance Nigeria’s long-standing achievements in para sports, including success at international events.

The recently concluded third National Para Games saw Enugu State emerge overall winner with 40 gold, eight silver, and seven bronze medals.

Bayelsa State followed with 25 gold, 30 silver, and 34 bronze medals, while Edo State placed third with 25 gold, 14 silver, and 12 bronze medals.

Rivers State and Lagos State completed the top five, finishing fourth and fifth respectively.
