National News – A senior finance operative of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Borno State, as the military intensifies its offensive against terrorist groups in the North-East.
The Theatre Command said the development is part of a growing wave of terrorist surrenders resulting from sustained land and air operations targeting insurgent strongholds across the region.
Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed in a statement on Saturday that about 46 terrorists and their family members had voluntarily laid down their arms in recent days due to increased military pressure.
According to the statement, the senior ISWAP operative surrendered to troops of the 3 Battalion under the 24 Task Force Brigade at about 6:45 a.m. on July 25, 2026, along the Ladari–Jegarawa–Tunokalia axis on the Gamboru–Wulgo Main Supply Route.
Goni said the suspect turned himself in following a series of coordinated military offensives against terrorist enclaves in the North-East.
Preliminary investigations identified the surrendered insurgent as the Chief Finance Operative of the ISWAP enclave in Jubillaram, where he reportedly managed the group’s finances and logistics.
The suspect surrendered alongside his two male children.
Items recovered from him include one AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 101 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one motorcycle and ₦40,000 in cash.
The military said the surrendered operative is currently undergoing detailed profiling and interrogation to provide actionable intelligence that would support ongoing counterterrorism operations and assist troops in tracking down remaining terrorist elements.
The Theatre Command reiterated its commitment to sustaining operations aimed at restoring peace and security across the North-East, while encouraging more insurgents to surrender and embrace the Federal Government’s deradicalisation programme.
