17 Policemen Killed In Yobe Terror Attack

National News – The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the death of 17 police officers after terrorists attacked the Nigerian Army Special Forces School in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

The deadly assault happened in the early hours of May 8, 2026, while the officers were undergoing specialised counter-terrorism and tactical training at the military facility.

According to police authorities, the attackers stormed the training institution from different directions at about 1:15 a.m., catching security personnel in a fierce gun battle.

Several soldiers of the Nigerian Army were also reportedly killed during the coordinated attack as troops tried to repel the terrorists and protect the facility.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Anthony Placid, disclosed that the slain officers were participating in advanced operational exercises aimed at strengthening national security efforts against insurgency and terrorism in the North-East region.

Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, described the fallen officers as brave and committed personnel who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to Nigeria.

He expressed condolences to the families of the victims and assured them that the police force would continue to support those affected by the tragedy.

The Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, also visited the training camp on behalf of the IGP to sympathise with military authorities and surviving trainees.

He praised the resilience of officers who survived the deadly assault and encouraged them to complete their training in honour of their late colleagues.

Security agencies have since intensified efforts to track down the perpetrators behind the Yobe terrorist attack.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to working with the Armed Forces and other security agencies to strengthen security operations and prevent future attacks on military and police formations across Nigeria.
