National News – Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State have purchased expression of interest and nomination forms for Governor Siminalayi Fubara ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The move, led by House of Representatives member Awaji-Inombek Abiante, reflects what party leaders describe as a collective decision by stakeholders across the state.
The purchase, made on Friday, May 1, 2026, in Rivers State, is aimed at demonstrating support for Fubara’s leadership and a push for continuity in governance.
Abiante said the action underscores confidence in the governor’s performance, citing infrastructure development and improved access to riverine communities.
Fubara, who previously left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following a political fallout with Nyesom Wike, is now positioned within the APC amid shifting political alliances in the state.
Stakeholders described the purchase of nomination forms as a democratic tradition rooted in collective political will, noting that similar practices have occurred at national level.
Abiante emphasized that the gesture was not driven by financial strength but by perceived public support for continuity in governance.
He further stated that Governor Fubara neither instigated nor influenced the decision.
According to him, the forms are expected to be formally presented to the governor later on Friday.
The development highlights ongoing political realignments in Rivers State following the dispute between Fubara and former governor Nyesom Wike, which previously split party structures and triggered a wider political crisis.
Since aligning with the APC, stakeholders say efforts are ongoing to consolidate support ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
