National News – Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has blamed Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in the state, accusing him of failing to act proactively to address growing insecurity.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Fayose said the governor should bear responsibility for the incident, arguing that state governments have a critical role in coordinating security efforts within their jurisdictions.
“I stand by my words. Seyi Makinde was not proactive enough. The abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo is a problem caused by Governor Seyi Makinde,” Fayose said.
He added that although security agencies are under the control of the Federal Government, state governments are expected to mobilise the police and effectively manage local security networks to prevent such attacks.
“The responsibility of the state government is to mobilise the police. It is also its responsibility to manage the security network in the state,” he stated.
The criticism follows the recent abduction of dozens of schoolchildren and teachers by suspected bandits in Oyo State. One of the abducted teachers was later confirmed killed, sparking widespread concern over the deteriorating security situation in the affected communities.
Governor Makinde’s administration has since imposed curfews in affected local government areas and intensified security operations aimed at securing the release of the remaining victims and preventing further attacks.
