National News – The Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineers (NIAE), Yenagoa Chapter, has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming Bayelsa’s agricultural sector as it inaugurated Engr. Doubara David Adou as its second chairman.
The event, held in Yenagoa, brought together key stakeholders in agriculture and engineering to outline a roadmap for food security, mechanized farming, and sustainable agricultural development in the state.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Prof. Beke Tuboukiye Sese, disclosed that the collaboration between the ministry and NIAE aims to achieve agricultural independence and food self-sufficiency in Bayelsa.
He emphasized that engineering innovations are critical to improving productivity, reducing post-harvest losses, and ensuring efficient farming systems.
According to him, capable professionals like Engr. Adou are essential to drive this vision forward.
Prof. Tuboukiye explained that there is urgent need to strengthen local food production and reduce reliance on imports.
He noted that Engr. Adou, who heads the engineering department in the ministry, has demonstrated competence and commitment to agricultural development goals.
He urged members of the chapter to support the new chairman to ensure effective implementation of policies and programs.
Outgoing chairman, Engr. Doc. Idibiye David, praised Adou as a founding member who played a key role in establishing the institution’s independence and growth in the state.
He expressed confidence that under Adou’s leadership, the chapter will achieve greater milestones in agricultural engineering and innovation.
During the event, Engr. Branley Eric Yabefa of Niger Delta University highlighted how mechanized farming and modern agricultural engineering techniques can boost efficiency, increase yields, and enhance food production outcomes.
The inauguration also featured the swearing-in of the 2025/2026 executive committee, while the national leadership, represented by Engr. Ndamzi Cyprian, advised members to remain united in achieving the institution’s objectives.
