National News – The Oba Akeem Owoade, monarch of Oyo, has issued a stern warning against the alleged illegal installation of a market leader, declaring such an action null and void.

The warning comes after one Isunmaila Kolawole Salam, popularly known as Olaiya, reportedly began parading himself as the Babaloja of Oyo without official approval.

The palace described the move as unauthorised, stressing that it undermines traditional authority and established procedures.

According to a statement released on Saturday by the palace’s Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, the monarch made it clear that no individual can assume any traditional or market leadership title without due process.

The palace emphasised that all such appointments must receive the consent of the Alaafin, who is the paramount ruler of the Oyo Kingdom.

The statement further clarified that Salam’s self-proclamation lacks legal backing and should not be recognised by the public.

It warned that anyone dealing with him in an official capacity does so at their own risk.

The palace also directed Salam to immediately stop presenting himself as the Babaloja, noting that failure to comply could attract consequences.

Explaining why the action is unacceptable, the palace highlighted the importance of preserving order and respecting traditional institutions.

It noted that due process ensures fairness, legitimacy, and peace within the community.

Any deviation, it added, could lead to confusion and potential conflict among stakeholders in the market system.

How the issue will be handled going forward remains tied to maintaining law and order.

The Alaafin reaffirmed his commitment to upholding tradition and safeguarding the integrity of the kingdom’s leadership structure.

He also reassured residents that necessary steps would be taken to prevent any disruption and ensure that only duly recognised individuals occupy positions of authority.
