National News – Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has officially exited the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing deepening internal conflicts and a worsening political climate in Nigeria.

Obi announced his decision on Sunday, May 3, 2026, via his X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that prolonged crises within the party and the broader political system prompted his departure.

According to him, the ADC has become entangled in disputes, legal battles, and internal divisions, which have hindered its ability to focus on national development and reform.

Obi explained that his decision followed months of reflection and what he described as “silent pains” experienced while navigating Nigeria’s political landscape.

He highlighted issues such as intimidation, insecurity, and distrust within political circles, noting that these challenges often discourage genuine public service.

He added that individuals who publicly align with reform movements sometimes privately undermine such efforts, creating a toxic environment for progress.

The former Anambra State governor clarified that his resignation was not due to personal disagreements with key party leaders, including former Senate President David Mark and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Instead, he emphasized that systemic issues and recurring internal disputes influenced his choice.

Obi noted that similar challenges he faced in previous political platforms appear to be resurfacing within the ADC, making meaningful change difficult.

Addressing speculation about his political ambitions, Obi stated that he is not driven by a desire for power or office.

Rather, he remains committed to advocating for a Nigeria where citizens can live with dignity, security, and economic stability.

He stressed that leadership should prioritize service over control and inclusion over division.

Despite his exit, Obi reaffirmed his belief in the possibility of national transformation.

He maintained that Nigeria can still achieve progress through competent, transparent, and compassionate leadership.

His statement concluded with a renewed call for unity and hope, declaring that a better future for the country remains attainable.
