National News – Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has officially begun his re-election campaign ahead of the June 20, 2026 governorship election, promising continuity in governance and development.

The campaign kicked off on Monday in Ikole Ekiti and Oye Ekiti, marking the start of statewide outreach across all 16 local government areas.

Oyebanji, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, said his second-term bid is driven by the need to sustain policies, projects, and progress achieved over the past three and a half years.

Speaking during the campaign launch, Oyebanji stated that his administration has delivered on key electoral promises, including improvements in infrastructure, electricity, education, roads, and water supply.

He emphasised that continuity in leadership would ensure further growth and stability in the state.

According to him, Ekiti has witnessed reduced insecurity and steady development, which he pledged to expand if re-elected.

The governor also used the occasion to warn against electoral violence before, during, and after the polls.

He urged residents to embrace peaceful participation and “fight with their votes” rather than engage in disruptive activities.

Oyebanji expressed confidence in victory, recalling that his 2022 campaign also began in Ikole Ekiti, which he described as a place of political significance for his party.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has scheduled the election for June 20, with 13 political parties expected to participate.

Oyebanji appealed to voters to turn out en masse and support his re-election bid, assuring them of continued delivery of democratic dividends.

Supporting his candidacy, APC State Chairman, Sola Elesin, described the governor’s achievements as unprecedented, noting that they have earned him widespread support across Ekiti State.

A youth leader in Ikole Local Government, Valentine David, also commended Oyebanji’s performance, particularly in youth development, agriculture, and education, pledging strong backing from young voters.
