National News – The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) has issued a strong warning to politicians in Ibadan, cautioning against any form of disrespect toward the revered Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The warning was delivered on Monday, May 4, 2026, in Ibadan, Oyo State, amid growing concerns over inflammatory political rhetoric and conduct.
According to the CCII President-General, Ajeniyi Ajewole, the council acted in response to recent statements and actions by certain political actors perceived as disrespectful to the traditional institution.
The statement, released through the council’s Publicity Secretary, Kola Olomide, stressed that the dignity of the Olubadan stool must remain protected at all times.
Ajewole emphasized that the Olubadan serves as a unifying father figure to all residents and indigenes, regardless of political differences.
He warned that any attempt to insult or undermine the stool for political gain would attract serious consequences.
The council further stated that repeated offenses, even if followed by apologies, would no longer be tolerated.
The CCII also condemned the rising trend of politicians engaging in verbal attacks, including curses and hostile remarks against opponents.
It described such behavior as irresponsible and capable of destabilizing peace in the ancient city.
The group urged political leaders to exercise restraint, maintain decorum, and prioritize unity over division.
Highlighting the importance of tradition, the council reiterated that the Olubadan institution remains strictly non-partisan and should never be dragged into political conflicts.
It called on all stakeholders to uphold respect for cultural heritage while engaging in political activities.
The warning comes as political tensions gradually rise ahead of future elections, prompting concerns about the preservation of long-standing traditions in Ibadanland.
