National News – A former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdulsalam-Gwarzo, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing shifting political realities ahead of the 2027 elections.

The resignation, confirmed in a letter dated May 1, 2026, was addressed to the party chairman in Gwarzo Local Government Area, marking an immediate end to his membership.

Gwarzo, a prominent political figure in northern Nigeria, explained that his decision followed extensive consultations with associates, supporters, and stakeholders across the state.

He said the move was necessary due to evolving political developments that required him to reassess his alignment within the party structure.

According to him, the current political climate in Kano and across Nigeria influenced his decision to step away from the ADC.

He emphasised that his resignation was driven by a desire to pursue a political direction that reflects his vision for good governance, democratic values, and sustainable development.

The former deputy governor further noted that his action was based on patriotic considerations, adding that the interests of the people and the future of the state played a significant role in shaping his decision.

Despite leaving the party, Gwarzo expressed appreciation to the ADC leadership and members for their cooperation and support during his time with the organisation.

While he did not disclose his next political destination, political observers believe the move may be connected to ongoing realignments among major political actors ahead of the 2027 general elections.

His exit adds to a growing list of defections and resignations reshaping Nigeria’s political landscape.
