National News – The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned power outage affecting parts of Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
The disruption is due to scheduled maintenance on a 100MVA 132/33kV transformer located at the Ayede Transmission Substation.
According to TCN, the exercise will take place between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., temporarily cutting electricity supply to several communities.
The announcement was made by the company’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, who explained that the maintenance is part of routine checks aimed at ensuring the transformer operates efficiently.
The affected areas include Express, Industrial, and Oluyole, where residents and businesses will experience a temporary blackout during the maintenance period.
TCN stated that the shutdown is necessary to maintain optimal performance of the power infrastructure and prevent unexpected breakdowns in the future.
As a result, the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) will be unable to distribute electricity to customers in the listed areas for the duration of the exercise.
The company acknowledged the inconvenience the outage may cause and appealed for understanding from electricity consumers.
It assured the public that power supply would be restored promptly once the maintenance work is completed.
This development highlights ongoing efforts by TCN to improve power reliability across Nigeria through preventive maintenance.
While the outage is temporary, it underscores the importance of infrastructure upkeep in ensuring consistent electricity supply.
Residents and businesses in the affected locations are advised to make necessary arrangements to manage the outage period effectively.
