National News – Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State on Monday, May 5, 2026, inaugurated a State Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR), Peace and Security Committee.
The initiative is aimed at tackling insecurity and strengthening long-term peacebuilding efforts across Kaduna State.
The committee was established with support from the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) and the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC).
It is designed to address banditry, kidnapping, and armed violence affecting communities in the North-West geopolitical zone.
The governor said Kaduna had suffered years of insecurity, especially along the Kaduna–Abuja road and Birnin Gwari axis.
He noted that attacks, kidnappings, and rural violence disrupted farming, education, and trade.
Sani explained that his administration introduced the “Kaduna Peace Model.”
The model combines military action with dialogue, community engagement, and economic support.
He said this approach helps address the root causes of conflict.
Security partners from the NCTC and international agencies praised the initiative.
They said DDR programmes help collect weapons, dismantle armed groups, and reintegrate ex-combatants.
They also noted that Kaduna’s approach could serve as a national model.
Experts believe it may guide other Nigerian states facing similar insecurity challenges.
