National News – The Oyo State Government has introduced a daily environmental sanitation monitoring and enforcement system across Oyo State, replacing the traditional monthly exercise.

The initiative, announced on May 5, 2026, in Ibadan, is led by the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Ademola Aderinto, under Governor Seyi Makinde.

The policy aims to improve cleanliness, public health, and waste management through continuous enforcement and community participation.

Aderinto stated that 930 Environmental Vanguards, sweepers, and waste packers have been re-engaged to strengthen coverage.

The state also procured new compactor trucks to enhance waste evacuation efficiency.

In addition, the Oyo Soro Soke Environmental Whistleblower platform allows residents to report sanitation violations via mobile apps and WhatsApp.

Further reforms include waste segregation in government offices, partnerships for modern public toilets, and intensified campaigns against open defecation.

The ministry also conducts inspections to curb diseases such as cholera, Lassa fever, and flooding-related risks.

Public awareness has been boosted through regular media briefings.

According to the Commissioner, the reform represents a shift from reactive sanitation to proactive environmental governance, ensuring daily accountability for cleaner surroundings in Oyo State.

The environmental drive is part of broader urban renewal efforts in Oyo State aimed at improving sanitation infrastructure, reducing flooding risks, and promoting sustainable waste management practices.

Authorities urged residents, market operators, and transport unions to comply fully with the daily sanitation rules, warning that enforcement would be strict.

The initiative is expected to improve public health outcomes, enhance tourism appeal, and create cleaner urban spaces across Ibadan and other major towns in the state.
