National News – Osun East Senatorial aspirant on the platform of the Accord Party, Samuel Oyedotun, has said Governor Ademola Adeleke’s rising popularity in Osun State remains a political puzzle to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.

Speaking in Osogbo on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, Oyedotun noted that Adeleke’s grassroots appeal cuts across party lines

He said despite campaigns of criticism against the administration, the governor continues to enjoy strong public support across urban and rural communities.

Oyedotun, a former chairman of the Osun State Water Corporation Board, argued that even within APC circles many are unable to explain the sustained acceptance of the governor, describing it as a “political mystery” driven by visible development projects and welfare-oriented governance.

He referenced the August 15 governorship poll, stating that the opposition underestimated Adeleke in 2022 but suffered defeat, and warned that similar miscalculations could repeat if they ignore current grassroots sentiment.

Oyedotun further highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects across Osun State, saying they have helped reduce poverty and improve living standards, strengthening Adeleke’s chances of re-election.

He concluded that his own senatorial ambition is centered on people-focused representation.

Oyedotun added that the opposition’s concerns stem from Adeleke’s perceived performance in governance, especially in delivering projects in both rural and urban areas, which he said has reshaped political expectations in Osun State ahead of the 2027 elections and strengthened public trust in the administration.

He maintained that Adeleke’s popularity continues to grow despite political opposition narratives, attributing it to consistent engagement with citizens and visible governance outcomes that resonate across different communities in Osun State.

He said the political dynamics will remain influenced by grassroots sentiment as the state moves closer to the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.

Analysts say the contest highlights deepening party rivalry in Osun politics.
