National News – Nollywood stars Linda Ejiofor and Bucci Franklin emerged among the biggest winners at the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards held on Saturday at the Eko Hotel.
The glamorous entertainment event celebrated outstanding achievements in African film, television and digital content, attracting actors, filmmakers and celebrities from across the continent.
Ejiofor stole the spotlight after clinching two major awards during the ceremony in Lagos.
She won the Best Lead Actress category for her performance in The Serpent’s Gift and also secured the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in The Herd.
Her double victory became one of the biggest talking points of the night.
Meanwhile, actor Uzor Arukwe won the Best Lead Actor award for his role in Colours of Fire, while Franklin thrilled fans after claiming the Best Supporting Actor prize for his performance in To Kill a Monkey.
Franklin defeated several top Nollywood stars including Femi Adebayo, Gabriel Afolayan and Lateef Adedimeji.
In another major highlight, My Father’s Shadow won the prestigious Best Movie award.
However, popular actress Funke Akindele failed to secure any win despite her blockbuster movie Behind the Scenes receiving four nominations, including Best Movie and Best Lead Actress.
The film reportedly grossed more than N2bn at cinemas before the awards night.
Veteran actors Kanayo O. Kanayo and Sola Sobowale received Industry Merit Awards for their contributions to Nollywood, while actress Uche Montana earned the Trailblazer Award.
The colourful event also featured a cultural celebration showcasing Nigerian fashion, music and entertainment excellence.
