National News – Residents of Igboho in Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State have been thrown into mourning following the killing of a pregnant woman and a man who reportedly delivered ransom money to secure her freedom after they were abducted by suspected kidnappers.

The incident, which has heightened concerns over rising insecurity in the state, occurred after armed men reportedly invaded the community at night and abducted the pregnant woman alongside her children and a sibling.

According to sources, the abductors initially demanded N300 million for the victims’ release but later reduced the amount to N150 million. Despite ongoing negotiations, the pregnant woman and the individual who conveyed the ransom were allegedly killed, while at least one captive remained in the custody of the attackers.

The development sparked outrage among residents and drew a strong reaction from Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, who condemned the killings and warned that criminal activities would no longer be tolerated in the community.

Addressing Fulani leaders in Igboho, Igboho expressed anger over the incident and insisted that those responsible must ensure the safe return of the remaining captives.

He issued a two-hour ultimatum for the release of the victims, warning that failure to comply could lead to consequences. He also rejected the payment of ransom by the victims’ relatives, arguing that members of the Fulani community should collectively facilitate the release of those still in captivity.

The latest attack has intensified fears among residents of Igboho and surrounding communities, with many calling for urgent intervention by security agencies to stem the growing wave of kidnappings and violence across Oyo State.

The incident adds to mounting concerns over insecurity in several parts of the country, where communities continue to grapple with abductions, killings and attacks by armed groups.
