National News – The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the killing of former Ogun State Television (OGTV) broadcaster, Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, with the prime suspect allegedly confessing that the murder was intended to “teach her a lesson.”

The State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, disclosed this on Thursday while briefing journalists at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

According to the police, investigations into the double homicide commenced after residents reported suspicious activities at Oyesiku’s residence. Detectives who responded to the scene reportedly found evidence of forced entry and signs of a violent struggle.

Adetayo’s body was discovered in the security post, while Oyesiku was found dead inside her apartment. Her Lexus RX330 SUV, initially declared missing, was later recovered during the investigation.

Ojajuni said a handwritten note recovered from the stolen vehicle became a crucial lead, and forensic analysis led detectives to arrest the principal suspect, 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, on June 24.

Further intelligence-led operations resulted in the arrest of two other suspects identified as 27-year-old Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, a security guard, and 36-year-old Sobu Obafunsho, a bricklayer.

The police commissioner said Philip confessed during interrogation that he masterminded the attack over grievances he allegedly harboured against Oyesiku while working as her security guard.

“He stated that the killing of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku was intended to teach her a lesson,” Ojajuni said.

According to the police, the suspects carried out the attack on June 20 by first overpowering Adetayo and forcing him to grant them access into the residence. They allegedly attacked Oyesiku before killing the security guard and fleeing with the victim’s vehicle.

The stolen SUV was later recovered through intelligence and technical tracking operations in the Onikolobo area of Ogun State.

Police also recovered several exhibits linked to the crime, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a wooden plank and a black pen.

Ojajuni stressed that although the suspects had made confessional statements and investigators had recovered substantial evidence, they remain entitled to due process under the law.

He added that investigations are continuing to consolidate evidence and ensure diligent prosecution of everyone connected with the crime.

“The Ogun State Police Command remains committed to ensuring that justice is served and that all persons connected with this heinous crime are brought to book,” the commissioner said.
