National News – The Abia State Police Command has arrested officers linked to a viral misconduct video recorded in Uturu, Abia State, following public outrage over the incident.

The command confirmed the arrests on Sunday after a commuter filmed an encounter with police officers at a checkpoint.

The video, which spread widely on social media, showed officers questioning the commuter about carrying three mobile phones and resisting being recorded during the exchange.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the command immediately launched an investigation after the footage surfaced online.

She explained that the complainant was contacted while the officers involved were identified, traced, and taken into custody for further questioning.

The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Danladi Isa, directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to handle the case and determine the appropriate disciplinary measures.

The police command also assured residents that updates on the investigation would be released to the public as proceedings continue.

In the now-viral clip, one of the officers reportedly questioned the commuter over the number of mobile phones in his possession.

The commuter then asked why the officer was not wearing a visible name tag, making identification difficult.

Another officer objected to being filmed, but the first officer dismissed the concern, insisting he was not afraid of being recorded.

The situation reportedly escalated when the commuter threatened to contact the Inspector-General of Police, prompting a heated exchange before a struggle allegedly followed.

The incident has sparked renewed conversations about police professionalism, accountability, and citizens’ rights during stop-and-search operations in Nigeria.

Police authorities reiterated their commitment to discipline, civility, and respect for human rights while carrying out lawful duties.

The command warned that misconduct and abuse of office would not be tolerated under any circumstance.
