National News – An aspirant for the Share/Oke-Ode State Constituency seat in the Kwara State House of Assembly under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, Abdulrasheed Akogun, has declared that opposition parties in Kwara State have lost political relevance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He made the statement on Monday after participating in the APC screening exercise held in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Akogun praised the screening committee for conducting what he described as a transparent, credible, and smooth exercise for House of Assembly aspirants.
According to him, the growing number of politicians contesting for APC tickets across the state reflects confidence in the ruling party and the leadership style of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The APC chieftain explained that no fewer than 158 aspirants are contesting for tickets across the 24 state constituencies in Kwara State.
He noted that the development shows how attractive the APC platform has become to politicians and stakeholders preparing for the 2027 elections.
Akogun credited Governor AbdulRazaq’s administration for strengthening the APC’s popularity in Kwara State through what he called purposeful leadership and impactful governance.
He added that many residents now see the party as the dominant political force capable of retaining control of the state during the next election cycle.
Speaking on his own ambition, Akogun said his years of grassroots mobilisation and political engagement in the Share/Oke-Ode constituency have positioned him strongly for the contest.
He recalled serving as Director of Media and Publicity for the Governor AbdulRazaq Campaign Organisation during the 2019 governorship election.
The APC aspirant further claimed that securing the party’s ticket already provides a major advantage in the forthcoming elections.
He expressed confidence that party stakeholders, members, and leaders would support his candidacy as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections in Kwara State.
