National News – Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, describing the incident as a painful loss to Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
Obi reacted on Friday through a statement shared on X, where he mourned the late actor and sympathised with his family, colleagues, and fans across the country.
The former Anambra State governor said he received the news of Ekubo’s passing with sadness, noting that the actor’s talent and contributions to Nollywood made him a beloved figure among millions of Nigerians.
According to Obi, the death of the 40-year-old actor has thrown the entertainment industry into mourning and serves as a reminder of the fragility of life.
Obi extended condolences on behalf of himself and supporters of young Nigerian creatives, praising the late actor for his impact on nation-building through entertainment.

Alexx Ekubo reportedly died on Monday, May 11, 2026, after battling advanced metastatic kidney cancer.
His family confirmed that he passed away at Evercare Hospital in Lagos and requested privacy as they mourn the actor.
