National News – Former England and Manchester United star David Beckham has been named Britain’s first billionaire sportsman, according to the 2026 Sunday Times Rich List released on May 15, 2026.
The list shows that Beckham and his wife, Victoria Beckham, now hold a combined estimated wealth of £1.185 billion ($1.583 billion), placing them among the UK’s richest sporting-linked figures.
The report highlights that the milestone comes from Beckham’s post-retirement business empire, including his co-ownership stake in Major League Soccer club Inter Miami, valued at about £1.07 billion.
His income is further boosted by long-term endorsement deals with global brands such as Adidas and Hugo Boss, alongside media and commercial ventures.
Victoria Beckham’s contribution to the family fortune is largely driven by her successful fashion label, which has grown into a global luxury brand since her transition from pop stardom with The Spice Girls.
Together, the couple’s diversified investments and branding power have significantly increased their financial standing over the years.
On the same list, seven-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton ranks fifth with £435 million, while golfer Rory McIlroy, boxer Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury, tennis icon Andy Murray, and footballer Harry Kane also feature among the top ten wealthy UK sports personalities.
Meanwhile, the list also places the family of former Formula One chief executive Bernie Ecclestone at the top of the UK sports wealth ranking, with an estimated fortune of £2 billion.
Analysts say Beckham’s rise reflects the growing financial power of retired athletes who successfully transition into global business and entertainment investments.
Experts note that Beckham’s billionaire status strengthens his legacy as both a football icon and global brand entrepreneur, influencing future generations of athletes pursuing commercial success beyond sport.
His achievement marks a major shift in sports finance and athlete branding worldwide.
