Diri Honors Mother at 13th Memorial Service

National News – Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, on Friday, May 15, 2026, held the 13th memorial service of his late mother, Mrs Rose Diri, in Ayamasa, Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, South-South Nigeria.

The event, which attracted top political leaders, traditional rulers, clergy, and government officials, was organised to honour her legacy and contributions to the family and community.

Governor Diri described his late mother as a virtuous woman whose love, care, and moral guidance shaped the lives of her children and others around her.

He noted that since her passing in 2013, the family has continued to gather annually to reflect on her enduring impact.

The memorial service featured prayers, scripture readings, including from 2 Timothy 4:6-8, and tributes highlighting her exemplary life.

According to the governor, the gathering was not only a remembrance but also a call for individuals to live meaningful lives that positively influence society.

Speaking at the event, dignitaries, including the deputy governor, senators, members of the House of Representatives, and former public officials, commended the legacy of Mrs Rose Diri.

They described her as a woman whose values continue to reflect in the leadership style of her son.

The service concluded with wreath-laying at her tomb by family members and close associates, marking a solemn moment of reflection and gratitude.

The memorial further reinforced Bayelsa State’s cultural tradition of honouring departed loved ones through annual remembrance events that strengthen family unity and public service values.
