National News – At least eight people died and 35 others were injured after a freight train collided with a passenger bus in downtown Bangkok, Thailand, on Saturday afternoon.
The tragic accident happened at a busy railway crossing beneath the Makkasan Airport Rail station, causing panic among commuters and residents in the area.
According to Bangkok police authorities, the freight train struck the bus as it attempted to cross the railway line.
Witnesses said the impact triggered a massive fire that engulfed the bus within seconds, leaving several passengers trapped inside.
Emergency responders, firefighters, and rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene to extinguish the flames and rescue survivors.
Police chief Urumporn Koondejsumrit confirmed that eight people lost their lives, while dozens sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Investigators were later seen examining the burnt remains of the bus as authorities cordoned off the accident site to control traffic and gather evidence.
Videos circulating on social media showed the train approaching the crossing moments before the collision.
A nearby witness told local broadcasters she avoided looking back after hearing the loud impact and seeing flames spread rapidly from the bus.
Thailand’s Prime Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, has ordered a full investigation into the deadly train-bus collision to determine the exact cause of the crash and whether safety measures were ignored.
Officials are also reviewing railway crossing procedures and traffic control systems in the area.
Thailand has recorded several deadly transport accidents in recent years due to speeding, weak enforcement of road safety laws, and reckless driving.
Similar railway collisions in previous years have claimed dozens of lives across the country.
The Bangkok train-bus crash has once again raised concerns over transportation safety and railway crossing management in Thailand as families mourn the victims and injured passengers receive treatment in nearby hospitals.
