Kano Censorship Board Suspends Two Kannywood Actors

By Our Correspondent

National News – The Kano State Censorship Board on Sunday, May 17, 2026, suspended two Kannywood actors, Amina Uba Hassan and Adam Garba, after their appearance in a viral video alleged to contain indecent content that violated moral standards and public decency guidelines in Kano State, Nigeria.

The decision, announced by the Executive Secretary Abba El-Mustapha through Abdullahi Sulaiman, is part of regulatory enforcement to uphold discipline in the film industry.

The suspension bars both actors from participating in any film-related activities within Kano State for one year.

According to the board, the action followed public outrage over the video, which raised concerns about compliance with Kannywood production regulations.

The Kano censorship authority stated that its law empowers it to sanction practitioners who breach content rules, aiming to preserve cultural values and industry ethics.

Stakeholders in Kano State’s creative industry say the suspension highlights the strict enforcement of film censorship laws designed to regulate content production in Northern Nigeria.

The Kano State Censorship Board, which oversees Kannywood film production, said the disciplinary measure was necessary to prevent the circulation of materials considered offensive to cultural and religious values.

The development underscores ongoing tensions between creative expression and content regulation in the Nigerian film industry.

Industry observers note that such sanctions are intended to maintain public decency and discipline among filmmakers and actors.

The suspension also serves as a warning to producers and directors to comply fully with Kano’s film regulations or risk further penalties under the censorship law.
