The Police Service Commission (PSC) has officially handed over 50,000 newly recruited Police Constables to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for training, marking another step in efforts to strengthen the country’s policing capacity.

The handover ceremony was held at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, where the Commissioner representing the Judiciary, Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (retd.), performed the exercise on behalf of the PSC Chairman.

Justice Galumje said the recruitment was conducted in line with the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and in accordance with the provisions of the law guiding police recruitment.

He commended the President for supporting the exercise and formally transferred the successful candidates to the Nigeria Police Force for training at designated police colleges and other approved institutions across the country. He also presented the official list of successful recruits, stored on a flash drive, to the police authorities.

Receiving the recruits on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, DIG Isyaku Mohammed, who oversees Training and Development, described the recruitment process as transparent and credible.

He assured that training for the newly recruited constables would begin simultaneously nationwide once the required funding is made available.

Also speaking, the Director of the Police Service Department in the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Muhammad, praised the recruitment exercise, describing it as transparent and in line with due process.

The Secretary to the Police Service Commission, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, expressed satisfaction with the successful completion of the recruitment exercise, attributing the achievement to the collaboration and commitment of all stakeholders involved.

The recruitment of the 50,000 constables forms part of the Federal Government’s efforts to boost the manpower of the Nigeria Police Force and improve internal security across the country.
