National News – The Lagos Waste Management Authority has announced plans to carry out a comprehensive safety audit across its operational facilities in Lagos State to improve workplace safety, boost operational efficiency, and strengthen environmental standards.
The move is part of broader reforms aimed at enhancing waste management services and ensuring compliance with global safety practices.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, disclosed the development during an inspection visit to the Transfer Loading Station at Simpson on Lagos Island.
During the visit, he assessed operational procedures, environmental conditions, and safety measures at the facility.
According to LAWMA’s Director of Public Affairs, Mukaila Sanusi, the planned audit will identify operational and safety gaps within LAWMA facilities across the state.
He explained that the initiative is expected to reinforce compliance with safety regulations while ensuring that sanitation facilities meet international operational standards.
Gbadegesin stated that the audit would promote a safer working environment for sanitation workers, contractors, and stakeholders operating within LAWMA facilities.
He added that proactive safety checks were necessary to reduce workplace risks, improve efficiency, and support sustainable waste management operations in Lagos.
During the inspection, the LAWMA boss also met with operational staff and facility managers, urging them to maintain strict adherence to safety guidelines and operational procedures.
He commended workers for their dedication and resilience in handling sanitation responsibilities across the state.
The agency further reaffirmed its commitment to continuous operational reforms and infrastructure upgrades to meet the growing waste management demands of Lagos residents.
LAWMA noted that the planned audit forms part of its wider strategy to reposition the agency as a modern, efficient, and environmentally responsible institution focused on public health and service excellence.
