National News – National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has declared that he will work to prevent President Bola Tinubu from securing re-election in the 2027 general election.

Baba-Ahmed made the remarks during a television interview while reacting to allegations that he still supports the current administration after previously serving in government.

The former Special Adviser on Political Matters to Tinubu stated that although he once worked within the administration, he never worked personally for the President.

According to him, Nigeria’s worsening economic hardship, insecurity, and rising poverty have convinced him that a change in leadership is necessary before the next election cycle.

Baba-Ahmed said he resigned from the administration in 2025 because he believed the government lacked the commitment needed to address the nation’s major challenges.

He insisted that he would not return to work with Tinubu and stressed that his political party would continue seeking lawful and democratic ways to challenge the ruling party in 2027.

Speaking on the opposition’s chances, the PRP chairman argued that the ruling All Progressives Congress had weakened itself through internal crises and governance failures.

He claimed that many Nigerians were frustrated with the current state of the country and looking for alternatives ahead of the next presidential election.

He also criticised the APC over its internal political processes, alleging that a small group of influential figures now determines who emerges in key political positions.

According to Baba-Ahmed, such actions undermine democratic traditions and reduce public confidence in governance.

The politician further explained that opposition parties must unite, avoid selfish interests, and focus on presenting a stronger alternative capable of defeating the APC in 2027.

He maintained that Nigerians deserved leadership that could improve security, reduce poverty, and rebuild confidence in the nation’s democratic system.
