National News – A member of the House of Representatives representing Ekiti North Federal Constituency 2, Akinlayo Kolawole, has rejected the outcome of the All Progressives Congress primary election held on Saturday in Ekiti State.
The lawmaker described the announced results as inconsistent with the wishes of party delegates and supporters, calling on the APC national leadership to review the process.
The controversy followed the declaration of results by returning officer Banjo Adedoyin in Ado Ekiti.
According to the announced figures, former National Assembly member Ibrahim Olarewaju secured 6,856 votes to emerge winner of the APC primary.
Kolawole polled 2,102 votes, while Omole Samson received 1,322 votes and Ayodeji Dada scored 2,896 votes.
Reacting through a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Special Duties, Kunle Adetifa, Kolawole insisted that the declared outcome did not reflect the votes freely cast during the exercise.
He alleged that the process lacked transparency, fairness, and due process expected in a credible political primary election.
The federal lawmaker urged the APC leadership and relevant electoral authorities to intervene and conduct a review to ensure that the genuine outcome of the election is upheld in line with democratic principles and party guidelines.
He maintained that his campaign enjoyed strong grassroots support across the constituency.
Kolawole also appealed to his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding despite the disagreement over the APC primary results.
He assured party loyalists that every legitimate step would be taken to protect what he described as the people’s mandate and preserve the integrity of the electoral process in Ekiti North Federal Constituency 2.
The development adds to growing tensions surrounding APC primary elections across several states ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.
