National News – Fear and grief have spread across Oyo State after suspected bandits killed an abducted secondary school teacher, Michael Oyedokun, following the attack on Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele in Oriire Local Government Area.

The victim was reportedly beheaded by the kidnappers after being held captive alongside other teachers and students abducted during the school invasion on Friday, May 15, 2026.

A disturbing video allegedly released by the attackers surfaced on Sunday and showed the teacher tied up before he was killed.

The incident has sparked outrage among residents, parents, education stakeholders and security observers across Nigeria, with many demanding stronger action against rising insecurity and school kidnappings.

The Oyo State Government confirmed the killing on Monday through the Special Adviser on Media to Governor Seyi Makinde, Dr Suleimon Olanrewaju.

He said the governor had extended condolences to the family of the slain teacher and assured residents that both military and non-military rescue efforts were ongoing to secure the release of the remaining victims.

According to the government, security agencies have arrested about six suspects linked to the kidnapping operation.

Authorities believe some of those arrested may have acted as informants or logistics suppliers for the attackers.

Three additional persons of interest were also reportedly detained by another security outfit in the state.

The government further disclosed that some soldiers, Amotekun Corps operatives and local vigilantes died during rescue operations after encountering Improvised Explosive Devices planted by the abductors.

Injured security personnel are currently receiving treatment.

Governor Makinde appealed for patience from affected families and religious groups, promising that authorities would continue rescue operations until the remaining captives are freed.

The latest Oyo school attack has renewed national concerns over insecurity, bandit attacks and student abductions in parts of Nigeria.
