National News – The Oyo State Government has issued a strong warning to residents across the state over the spread of unverified security information, cautioning that such misinformation is capable of triggering panic, disrupting security operations, and weakening public trust.

The alert was issued on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, by the Special Adviser on Security, Abayomi Fagbenro, amid heightened tension following recent terrorist attacks in Ogbomoso.

Authorities said the development is aimed at preventing further confusion as security agencies intensify rescue efforts for abducted victims.

The advisory follows a wave of false reports that circulated on social media claiming that Ladoke Akinola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, had been attacked again and shut down.

The government explained that the earlier attacks involved armed men targeting schools on the outskirts of Ogbomoso, resulting in deaths and abductions of teachers and students.

Security agencies are currently working to rescue victims, while the spread of false reports has complicated response efforts.

Officials warned that misinformation could mislead operational planning and endanger lives.

Fagbenro stressed that citizens must adopt responsible communication practices, including verifying any security-related information before dissemination.

He also warned against ignoring real threats, describing such behaviour as “false negatives,” which could delay emergency response and worsen security outcomes.

Residents were urged to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and rely only on verified sources for updates.

The government further called on community leaders, religious bodies, and youth groups to intensify awareness against fake news, especially on social media.

It reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening intelligence sharing and improving rapid response mechanisms to ensure the safety of schools, communities, and vulnerable areas across the state.
