National News – Former Rivers State Governor and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has declared himself the most qualified presidential aspirant within the African Democratic Congress ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general election.

Speaking during an interview on ARISE News on Friday, Amaechi said his long years of leadership experience and political background place him ahead of other contenders in the party.

Amaechi, who once served as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, stated that no other aspirant in the ADC possesses his level of experience.

He compared his political journey with that of President Bola Tinubu and other hopefuls, insisting that he had held more strategic leadership positions over the years.

The former governor explained that he led both the Speakers’ Conference and the Governors’ Forum for multiple terms, describing his return as chairman of the Governors’ Forum as controversial at the time.

According to him, his role often involved defending the interests of governors against federal pressure.

Amaechi also criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress administration, accusing it of using economic hardship and hunger to influence voters during elections.

He claimed politicians often distribute food items to struggling Nigerians in exchange for political support.

The ADC presidential hopeful further alleged that opposition parties were facing intimidation through government institutions and political interference.

He questioned why opposition groups were allegedly being denied fair political space despite claims that the ruling party remained popular across the country.

Speaking on what his administration would prioritise if elected president in 2027, Amaechi said restoring law and order through strict adherence to the rule of law would be his first assignment.

The comments come as political alignments and coalition talks continue ahead of the next presidential election, with several major opposition figures already linked to possible contests within the ADC.
