National News – Ekiti State Government and security agencies have reassured residents that schools and communities remain safe across the state.
The assurance came amid rising security concerns in some parts of Nigeria.
Officials gave the update on Monday in Ado Ekiti during a strategic meeting with school administrators.
The session focused on strengthening safety measures and addressing false alarms.
Special Adviser on Security Matters, Brig Gen Ebenezer Ogundana (retd), said Ekiti remains one of the safest states in Nigeria.
He urged residents to support ongoing efforts to maintain peace.
The Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, and DSS Director Mrs Nka Obi-Bisong also attended the meeting.
They stressed the importance of collaboration between schools, communities, and security agencies.
The DSS advised schools to improve perimeter fencing, install proper lighting, clear bushes around school premises, and deploy surveillance cameras where possible. These steps, they said, will strengthen physical security.
Police spokesperson SP Sunday Abutu warned against spreading false information.
He noted that false alarms are punishable under the Cybercrimes Act and other laws.
He urged residents to verify information before sharing it and to report suspicious activity to security agencies.
Authorities said misinformation has caused unnecessary panic in several communities.
Officials emphasized that school safety depends on joint responsibility.
Teachers, parents, and community leaders were urged to remain vigilant and cooperative.
