National News – The Oyo State Police Command has launched a manhunt for gunmen who abducted the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, along with her twin sons in Ibadan.
The victims, Mrs Busayo John-Paul, 43, and her 12-year-old sons, Peter and Paul, were reportedly kidnapped on Wednesday morning while she was taking the children to school.
According to police authorities, the abduction occurred around 7:30 a.m. on Ring Road in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Officers recovered the victim’s vehicle at the scene and immediately began investigations.
Tactical teams and other security units have been deployed to track down the kidnappers and secure the safe release of the victims.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the Commissioner of Police directed the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Challenge Division and other tactical units to intensify rescue operations.
The command also appealed to members of the public to provide useful information that could assist ongoing investigations.
A statement from Adelabu’s media aide, Femi Awogboro, confirmed the incident and described it as a distressing development for the family.
He expressed confidence that security agencies would succeed in rescuing Mrs John-Paul and her children unharmed.
The family urged residents and the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified reports that could interfere with rescue efforts.
Political figures and stakeholders have also reacted to the kidnapping, raising concerns over the growing security challenges in Oyo State.
The Oyo State chapter of the APC called on Governor Seyi Makinde to strengthen collaboration with security agencies and review the state’s security framework.
The party argued that recent kidnapping incidents have heightened fear among residents.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar also condemned the abduction, describing it as evidence of Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.
He called for a comprehensive intelligence-driven strategy to combat kidnapping syndicates, protect communities, and restore public confidence in the nation’s security system.
