National News – The Delta State Government has called on communities benefiting from electricity projects to protect power infrastructure across the state.

The appeal comes amid rising cases of vandalism targeting transformers, cables, and solar installations.

Commissioner for Energy, Michael Anoka, made the call on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, in Asaba.

He spoke when leaders of Utagba-Ogbe community visited the ministry on a courtesy call.

He said vandalism of electricity assets has become a major concern in Delta State.

He listed items frequently targeted as cables, transformers, solar batteries, and related equipment.

Anoka warned that vandalism delays power projects and increases government spending on repairs.

He added that the state has invested heavily in expanding and maintaining electricity supply across communities.

He urged residents and traditional leaders to work with government agencies to safeguard installations.

He also stressed that offenders will face legal consequences if caught.

Community leader Godwin Edeme assured the government of cooperation.

He said the community would support efforts to protect electricity infrastructure and improve local power supply.

The government said improved electricity access remains key to economic growth, small businesses, healthcare, and education in the state.

It also encouraged residents to report suspicious activities around power installations.

Officials believe stronger community involvement will reduce vandalism and improve electricity distribution across Delta State.
