National News – Coach Bolarinwa Idris has resigned as head coach of Ekiti United following the conclusion of the 2025/26 Nigeria National League season.

The announcement was made on Wednesday, ending a successful one-year spell with the Ekiti State-owned club after a remarkable campaign that brought the team close to promotion.

Idris, who guided Ekiti United throughout the season, officially submitted his resignation after leading the club to a third-place finish in the highly competitive NNL Conference B.

The team amassed 30 points, narrowly missing a spot in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
One of the biggest highlights of his tenure was Ekiti United’s flawless home record.

Under his leadership, the club won all nine of its home matches, collecting the maximum 27 points available on home soil.

This achievement made Idris the only coach in the just-concluded NNL season to maintain a perfect home record.

Speaking after his departure, Idris expressed gratitude to the Ekiti State Government and the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Sports Development, Dr. Olusola Osetoba, for their support throughout the season.

He also praised the players, coaching staff and supporters for their commitment and contributions.

According to the coach, the success recorded during the campaign was the result of collective effort.

He noted that the players fought hard for the club, while the staff worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure positive results.

When asked about his next destination, Idris revealed that discussions were ongoing with several clubs but no agreement had been reached.

He explained that he intends to take time to rest and evaluate his options before making a decision on his future.

With more than a decade of coaching experience across the Nigeria Nationwide League One and the Nigeria National League, Idris leaves Ekiti United with an enhanced reputation.

The CAF-certified coach previously managed Phoenix Athletics Sports Club, Greenlock FC and Grassrunners FC before joining the club.
