National News – The mother of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, Madam Olufunmilayo Adelabu, has recounted the emotional trauma she experienced following the abduction of her daughter and twin grandsons, saying the incident occurred barely a day after she had prayed for the release of other kidnap victims in Oyo State.
Speaking with journalists at her residence in the Challenge area of Ibadan after the victims were rescued by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, the elderly matriarch described the experience as heartbreaking and a stark reminder of the country’s worsening security challenges.
According to her, she was overwhelmed with grief when she received news that her daughter and grandchildren had been kidnapped.
“I was devastated when I heard what had happened. No mother prays to receive such frightening news about her children and grandchildren,” she said.
Madam Adelabu disclosed that the incident came just a day after she had offered prayers for the safe return of victims abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
She said she never imagined that her own family would soon become victims of a similar crime, noting that the experience underscored the reality that insecurity could affect anyone, irrespective of social status.
Expressing gratitude for the successful rescue operation, she thanked God, the Nigeria Police Force, government officials and all Nigerians who supported efforts to secure the release of her loved ones.
“I thank God Almighty for preserving their lives and bringing them back safely. I also appreciate the security agencies and everyone who stood by us during this difficult period,” she stated.
Despite the reunion with her family, Madam Adelabu said her thoughts remain with families whose relatives are still in captivity across the country.
She urged security agencies and other stakeholders to intensify efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes, expressing hope that Nigeria would experience lasting peace and improved security.
“My joy will only be complete when every victim still in captivity regains freedom and returns safely to their families,” she added.
