Kidnappers Abduct Resident, Kill Another in Abuja Community

Suspected kidnappers have abducted a resident and fatally shot another during an attack on a residential community near the Quarry area of Arab Road in Kubwa, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The incident reportedly occurred between late Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday when the armed assailants invaded the community through a nearby hill.

According to the community secretary, identified simply as Dairo, residents were alerted by the sound of gunfire as local vigilantes and hunters engaged the attackers in an attempt to repel them.

“We started hearing gunshots, and because the house is close to the hill, the local security operatives confronted the attackers,” he said.

Despite the resistance, the gunmen reportedly forced their way into a residence, shot one occupant, and abducted his younger brother.

“They were able to enter the apartment, shot one of the brothers and took the younger one away,” Dairo stated.

The victim who sustained gunshot wounds was rushed to a hospital but was later confirmed dead on Sunday, according to residents.

Dairo disclosed that police officers arrived at the scene shortly after the attack, but the kidnappers had already escaped with the abducted resident through the same route they used to enter the community.

He described the incident as the third successful kidnapping in the area in recent years, recalling that a corps member was abducted around 2021 or 2022 while another resident, identified as Mr Oshodi, was killed during the attack. He also noted that another resident was kidnapped in May 2025 and regained freedom after a ransom was allegedly paid.

The community leader further revealed that suspected kidnappers had attempted to infiltrate the area a few weeks earlier but were repelled by local security operatives.

To address the recurring security threats, residents established a local security network comprising vigilantes and hunters to protect the community.

Dairo appealed to the government and security agencies to establish a police station or intensify patrol operations in the area, expressing confidence that a stronger security presence would deter criminal activities.

Another resident, who spoke anonymously, confirmed the death of the shooting victim, saying, “The boy is dead; he didn’t make it.”

Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, were unsuccessful, as calls to her phone line could not be completed at the time of filing this report.
