Atiku Hails Rescue of 360 Boko Haram Captives, Urges Sustained Fight Against Terrorism

National News – The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has commended the rescue of 360 persons abducted by Boko Haram terrorists in Ngoshe, Borno State, describing the development as a significant victory against insurgency.

In a statement issued on Monday through his official X account, the former Vice President said the successful operation had brought relief to the victims and their families, who had endured months of anxiety since the abduction in March.

The rescue was carried out by troops of Operation HADIN KAI and other security agencies, who freed the victims from the Mandara Mountains, a known terrorist stronghold in southern Borno State.

The operation followed an earlier attack by Boko Haram insurgents on a military base in Ngoshe, during which operational vehicles were destroyed, security personnel were dispersed, several people were reportedly killed, and many residents were abducted.

Reacting to the development, Atiku praised the efforts of the military and other security agencies involved in the mission.

“I am elated by reports of the rescue of 360 persons abducted by terrorists in Ngoshe, Borno State. While this marks the end of a painful ordeal for the victims and their families, the nation still faces the persistent threats of terrorism and banditry,” he said.

He expressed confidence that the Nigerian Armed Forces could successfully overcome the country’s security challenges if adequately equipped and backed by strong political leadership.

According to him, “If provided with the necessary tools and the required political support, the military can bring an end to the insurgency that has plagued the country for nearly two decades.”

The former Vice President also called on the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the release of other Nigerians still being held captive, including schoolchildren and teachers reportedly abducted in Oriire, Oyo State, and Mussa, Borno State.

Atiku further advocated reforms to the nation’s security architecture, stressing the need for improved intelligence gathering, technological advancement, and proactive measures to prevent attacks before they occur.

He maintained that a security strategy anchored on intelligence, technology, and pre-emptive action would strengthen the country’s capacity to combat terrorism and banditry effectively.
