Nigerian Stars Shine in Seahawks’ Super Bowl Victory Over Patriots

Nigerian players and athletes of Nigerian descent were standout performers as the Seattle Seahawks claimed Super Bowl 2026 glory, defeating the New England Patriots 29-13 in a thrilling finale.

Several Nigerian heritage players made their mark on the NFL’s biggest stage. Linebacker Uchenna Nwosu led the charge for the Seahawks’ defense, while Boye Mafe and Nick Emmanwori played key roles in stopping the Patriots’ offense. On the offensive line, Olusegun “Olu” Oluwatimi showcased his skill in helping protect quarterback Sam Darnold.

For the Patriots, Michael Onwenu delivered an impressive performance, helping his team reach the Super Bowl final despite the defeat.

AFP reported that the Seahawks dominated the game, with Sam Darnold completing over 200 yards and a touchdown, cementing his redemption from earlier career struggles.

Seattle’s victory was boosted by Jason Myers’ record five Super Bowl field goals and a strong defensive performance.

The game remained scoreless through the first three quarters, with both teams playing cautiously. Kenneth Walker emerged as the game’s Most Valuable Player, rushing 135 yards and providing Seattle with crucial yardage.

The final quarter exploded with four touchdowns. Darnold’s 16-yard pass to AJ Barner opened the scoring for the Seahawks, and a late Patriots touchdown by Mack Hollins narrowed the gap. However, a pivotal strip-sack by Uchenna Nwosu led to a defensive touchdown that sealed Seattle’s win.

The victory marked a revenge win for the Seahawks, avenging their loss to the Patriots in the 2015 Super Bowl. For the Patriots, once known as the “Evil Empire,” the defeat meant no record seventh Lombardi Trophy and the first Super Bowl disappointment since Tom Brady’s departure.
