Iran Vows to Resist US Pressure on Nuclear Programme as Negotiations Restart

Iran has vowed to resist what it describes as “excessive demands” from the United States over its nuclear programme, as Tehran and Washington resume high-stakes nuclear negotiations following months of regional tension.

Speaking at Tehran’s Azadi Square during celebrations marking the 47th anniversary of Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, President Masoud Pezeshkian declared that the Islamic Republic would not bow to American pressure.

“Our Iran will not yield in the face of aggression,” Pezeshkian said. “Our country will not yield to their excessive demands.”

Iran Nuclear Talks Resume After US Strikes

The renewed Iran-US nuclear talks mark the first formal negotiations since last June’s war with Israel, during which the United States carried out strikes on Iranian nuclear sites. The escalation heightened global fears over Iran’s nuclear ambitions and stability in the Middle East.

While Tehran insists the discussions must remain strictly focused on its nuclear programme, the United States is pushing to expand negotiations to include Iran’s ballistic missile programme and its support for armed groups across the region.

Iran Insists Nuclear Programme Is Peaceful

President Pezeshkian reiterated that Iran is prepared for “any verification” of its nuclear activities, maintaining that Tehran is not seeking to develop an atomic weapon.

Iran has consistently argued that its nuclear programme is intended for peaceful energy purposes. However, Western powers and Israel remain sceptical, citing concerns that Iran could be pursuing nuclear weapons capability.

The dispute over nuclear transparency and regional security continues to shape diplomatic tensions between Tehran and Washington.

Heavy Security as Iran Marks Islamic Revolution Anniversary

Thousands of supporters gathered in Tehran to commemorate the Islamic Revolution that toppled the US-backed Shah in 1979. An increased security presence was visible at Azadi Square compared to previous years.

Women dressed in traditional veils waved Iranian flags and carried portraits of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei during the anniversary event.

The commemoration comes amid heightened political tensions inside Iran, following a nationwide protest movement last month that triggered a significant government crackdown. The United States had warned of possible military action in response to the unrest.

Rising Middle East Tensions

The renewed negotiations come at a critical time for Middle East security, with regional stability hanging in the balance. Observers say the outcome of the Iran nuclear talks could significantly impact US-Iran relations, Gulf security, and broader geopolitical dynamics.

As diplomatic efforts resume, both sides remain firm in their positions — Iran demanding respect for its sovereignty, and the United States pressing for broader security concessions.
