CAF Begins AFCON 2027 Stadium Inspections in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially commenced stadium inspection tours across Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania as preparations intensify for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027, branded PAMOJA 2027.

According to reports, a team of CAF technical experts has been deployed to the three East African co-hosts to assess infrastructure readiness, safety compliance and pitch standards ahead of the continental showpiece.

AFCON 2027: East Africa’s Historic Joint Hosting

Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania secured hosting rights for AFCON 2027 ahead of a joint bid from Nigeria and the Benin Republic. The tournament will mark a historic milestone as the first-ever tripartite hosting in East Africa.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe earlier confirmed that AFCON will transition from a biennial format after 2027, with the next edition scheduled for 2028 and subsequent tournaments to be held every four years.

Motsepe is expected to visit Tanzania on Friday as part of the high-level inspection and evaluation process.

CAF Stadium Inspection Focus Areas

The inspection exercise, which began this week and runs until February 17, will evaluate:

Stadium pitch quality and technical compliance

Safety and security systems

Infrastructure readiness

Training facilities and logistics

Operational standards and venue management

CAF stated that the inspections align with its strategy to elevate African football infrastructure to global standards.

“CAF’s inspections form part of a broader strategy to raise standards on and off the pitch across African football,” the governing body said.

The football authority emphasized that maintaining world-class benchmarks will further strengthen the reputation of the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON as one of the leading international football tournaments.

Tanzania Stadiums Under Review

In Tanzania, inspections started in Dar es Salaam before moving to Arusha and Zanzibar.
Key venues under evaluation include:

Benjamin Mkapa Stadium

Samia Suluhu Stadium (Arusha)

Amaan Stadium

Fumba Stadium

Designated training sites

The Tanzania Local Organising Committee (LOC) has earmarked Fumba Stadium as one of the tournament venues.

Kenya’s AFCON 2027 Venue Inspections

In Kenya, CAF experts are inspecting major Nairobi-based stadiums, including:

Kasarani Stadium

Nyayo Stadium

Talanta Sports Stadium

Training facilities such as:

Ulinzi Sports Complex

Kenya Academy of Sports

are also part of the evaluation programme.

Uganda’s Inspection Schedule

Uganda’s inspection tour covers Kampala, Entebbe and Hoima.

Stadiums listed for assessment include:

Mandela National Stadium (Kampala)

Hoima City Stadium

Various designated training sites

CAF’s Long-Term Football Development Plan

CAF reiterated its commitment to working closely with the governments of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania to ensure timely delivery and world-class tournament standards.

The governing body noted that the inspection exercise supports its broader objective of building a self-sustaining football ecosystem in Africa, strengthening partnerships with host governments and enhancing long-term infrastructure development.

“CAF will continue to work closely with the three host nations, their governments and LOC structures to support delivery planning and ensure that preparations intensify for the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania 2027,” the statement added.
